The best video podcast editing software in 2026, compared
By Lev PerlmanUpdated 8 min read
There is no single best video podcast editing software. The right tool depends on how you record (in a room or remotely, one camera or several), where you want to finish the edit, and how much of the work you want automated. This guide compares the main options in 2026 and says who each one suits.
Disclosure: podswitch is our product. We have included it alongside tools we do not make, and every fact about other products comes from the vendor's own website, checked on 31 October 2026 and linked in the footnotes. Prices are as the vendors showed them on that date, in the currency shown, and may change or differ by country and tax.
What should you look for in podcast editing software?
Before comparing tools, decide what you need:
- Multicam switching. With a camera per speaker, something has to choose the angle for every moment. Automatic tools usually decide from who is speaking.
- Where you finish. Some tools export a timeline to Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve; others keep you in their own editor.
- Clean-up. Silence, filler words, retakes and mic bleed.
- Clips and captions. Short vertical clips with captions, for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
- Transcripts. For show notes, subtitles and finding moments.
- Where your footage goes. Some tools upload your video to the cloud; some work locally.

podswitch
podswitch cuts a multicam podcast from each speaker's microphone. You give it one recording per speaker; it syncs every file by sound, decides each camera switch from who is talking, removes mic bleed from the dialogue mix, and returns a project for your editor. Final Cut Pro gets a multicam clip with a pre-cut timeline; Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve get a cut timeline with one track per camera. Your video stays on your computer: the browser extracts the audio and only that is uploaded.
On paid plans it also suggests short clips with a score, cuts the pauses, follows the speaker and adds captions in 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9, and gives you the episode transcript as TXT, SRT or WebVTT.
- Suits: in-person podcasts with one mic per speaker, and editors who want to finish in their own editor without uploading client video.
- Bear in mind: for camera switching in a room it needs a separate microphone for each speaker; a single video-call recording works too, with speaker detection on the audio. It does not render the full episode as a video file: you finish and export in your editor. It does not export to Avid Media Composer or After Effects.
- Price: a free plan, then Premium at £7.99 a month or £79.99 a year, or £29.99 for a single project, all including VAT at the time of writing.1
Descript
Descript lets you edit audio and video by editing the transcript. Its Automatic Multicam feature, according to Descript's help centre, detects who is speaking and cuts to the right camera across the recording. You assign each audio track to its camera, and choose between an automatic style with cutaways during monologues (for multi-track sequences) or showing only the active speaker.8
- Suits: people who prefer editing by text and want to record, edit and publish in one app.
- Bear in mind: the edit happens in Descript rather than in a traditional editor.
- Price: a free plan; Hobbyist is $24 a month or $16 a month billed annually, Creator $35 or $24, and Business $65 or $50, per person.2
Riverside
Riverside is an online recording studio. Its website says it records each participant locally in separate tracks, at up to 4K video, so the recording is not affected by the internet connection. It has a text-based editor, auto-layouts that change based on who is speaking, transcriptions, and Magic Clips, which picks highlights and makes short clips with captions in vertical, widescreen and other shapes.910
- Suits: remote interviews where guests join from a browser, and teams that want recording and editing in one place.
- Bear in mind: the free plan records at up to 720p with a Riverside watermark.3
- Price: Pro is $24 a month billed annually ($288 a year), and Grow $34 a month billed annually ($408 a year).3
AutoPod
AutoPod is a set of plug-ins for Adobe Premiere Pro. Its Multi-Camera Editor edits multicam sequences automatically, the Social Clip Creator makes 1920x1080, 1080x1350 and 1080x1920 clips, and the Jump Cut Editor cuts silences. AutoPod says it works with up to 10 cameras and 10 microphones.11
- Suits: editors who already work in Premiere Pro and want automation inside it.
- Bear in mind: it needs Premiere Pro 2023 or newer. Its pricing page says it is also available for DaVinci Resolve.4
- Price: $29 a month, with a 30-day free trial on monthly billing and one month free per year on annual billing.4
Gling
Gling is an AI video editor built for YouTube creators. It removes bad takes, silences and filler words, and adds AI captions, noise removal and auto framing.12 Its podcast page lists multicam editing, SRT subtitles and XML export to Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and Resolve.13
- Suits: solo creators and talking-head recordings with lots of retakes, where most of the work is cutting out the mistakes.
- Bear in mind: the free plan includes one hour of AI-edited media a month, with a watermark on exports.5
- Price: Plus is $20 a month or $10 a month billed annually, Pro $40 or $20, and Elite $100 or $50.5
Eddie AI
Eddie AI builds rough cuts from interview and podcast footage. For podcasts, its website says it syncs the audio, switches camera angles based on who is speaking, can pull out shorts when you ask it in chat, and exports to Premiere Pro, Resolve and Final Cut Pro. It also lists Avid Media Composer among the editors it works with.14
- Suits: professional editors cutting interviews, documentaries and podcasts who want a rough cut to refine, and anyone who prefers paying per project.
- Bear in mind: pricing is by credits rather than a subscription.
- Price: new accounts get 500 free credits; packs start at $10 for 1,000 credits, which Eddie says is about an hour of footage, and credits do not expire.6
Your editor's own multicam tools
You do not need extra software to cut a multicam podcast. Final Cut Pro can create a multicam clip and sync the angles using their audio waveforms; you then switch angles yourself as the episode plays.15 DaVinci Resolve 20 added AI Multicam SmartSwitch, which Blackmagic Design says switches multicam angles automatically based on the active speaker.16
- Suits: editors with time to cut each episode, and shows where every switch is a creative choice.
- Bear in mind: switching angles by hand across a long episode takes time.
How do you choose?
- Recording remotely? Start with Riverside, or Descript if you prefer editing by text.
- In a room, one mic per speaker, finishing in your own editor? podswitch, AutoPod (for Premiere Pro) or Eddie AI.
- Mostly solo, with lots of retakes? Gling.
- Happy to switch angles yourself? Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve on their own.
Most of these tools have a free tier or trial. The best test is your own recording: run the same episode through two or three and see which result needs the least fixing. For a closer look at how podswitch compares on specific features, see our comparison page.
What about clips and transcripts?
Short clips and a transcript are now part of most podcast workflows. If that is what you need most, our pages on the podcast clip maker and podcast transcripts explain what podswitch makes from each episode, and our guide to turning a podcast into short clips covers the workflow by hand.

Common questions
What is the best software for editing a video podcast?
It depends on how you record and where you want to finish. If you record remotely and want to record and edit in one place, Riverside or Descript fit. If you record in a room with one mic per speaker and finish in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, an automatic multicam tool such as podswitch, AutoPod or Eddie AI saves the angle switching. If you mostly talk to camera alone, Gling's take and silence removal is aimed at you.
Do I need multicam software for a podcast?
Only if you film with more than one camera. With one camera per speaker, someone has to decide which angle is on screen for every moment. Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve can build a multicam clip themselves; automatic tools decide the switches for you, usually from who is speaking.
Is there free podcast editing software?
Several tools have a free tier at the time of writing, including podswitch, Descript, Riverside and Gling, and DaVinci Resolve has a free version. Free tiers have limits, such as watermarks, lower resolution or a few hours a month, so check each vendor's current terms.
Which podcast editors export to Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve?
Of the tools in this list, podswitch, Gling and Eddie AI say they export to all three. AutoPod runs inside Premiere Pro, and its pricing page says it is also available for DaVinci Resolve. Descript and Riverside are built around editing inside their own apps.
