Descript alternatives for video podcasts

Descript is built around editing video by editing its transcript, and that suits many shows. If you edit a multicam video podcast in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, or want your video to stay on your computer, these alternatives are worth a look. Every fact is sourced from each company’s website.

Checked between 11 October 2026 and 31 October 2026 from each company’s own website. Features and prices change, so follow the source links for the current details. Prices are quoted as each website showed them, in its own currency. Spotted something out of date? Tell us and we will correct it.

Questions

What is the best Descript alternative for video podcasts?

If you want to edit by transcript inside one app, Descript is built for that. If you record a multicam video podcast with a microphone per speaker and finish in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, podswitch makes the cut from the microphones and exports it to your editor.

Does Descript do multicam?

Yes. Automatic Multicam is listed on its pricing page, and it picks layouts and cameras inside Descript’s editor. When we checked, Descript’s feedback board showed exporting the multicam to Final Cut Pro and Premiere as a feature request.

Can I edit by text in podswitch?

No. podswitch does not edit video by editing its transcript. It makes the camera cut from the microphones, and on paid plans gives you the transcript as TXT, SRT or WebVTT. If text-based editing is the main thing you need, Descript is designed around it.

Which alternatives keep my video on my computer?

podswitch uploads the audio, not the video, and CastCut runs offline on your Mac. Riverside keeps recordings in its cloud, and Eddie AI starts by uploading your footage.
