What Opus Clip does well

  • Works from a single video or a YouTube link, no multicam setup needed.
  • Animated caption templates.
  • A free plan.

Why you might want something else

  • Opus Clip works from one video at a time, so a multicam recording has to be edited first.
  • Videos are uploaded for processing, and for individual users data may be used to improve its AI models.
  • Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve export, and 1:1 and 16:9 clips, are on its Pro and Business plans; Final Cut Pro is not listed.

Questions

What is the best Opus Clip alternative for a multicam video podcast?

It depends on where you finish. If you record with a microphone per speaker and edit in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, podswitch cuts the episode and the clips from the microphones and exports timelines. If you want clips from a single video in the browser, Choppity works in a similar way to Opus Clip.

Does Opus Clip export to Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve?

Yes, on its Pro and Business plans, according to its pricing page. Final Cut Pro is not listed. podswitch exports clips as timelines for all three.

Is there a free alternative to Opus Clip?

Opus Clip itself has a free plan, and so do Choppity, Descript, Riverside and podswitch. podswitch’s social clips are on paid plans; its free plan covers the multicam cut.

Which alternatives avoid uploading my video?

podswitch uploads the audio, not the video and can render a clip to MP4 in your browser from your own files (beta). Plug-ins such as FireCut and AutoCut run inside your editor; we found no statement on their websites about what they send to their servers.

See it on your own episode.
